A Windom man was arrested after assaulting police officers during a welfare check on Tuesday.

According to the Windom Police Department, on Nov. 28, at about 5:51 p.m., officers responded to 605 10th Street #610 regarding a welfare check on Sem Robert Lugo, 34, of Windom.
When officers arrived, they were told of a possible assault and theft involving Lugo. Officers contacted Lugo, and he fled on foot and barricaded himself in an apartment.
Lugo began throwing objects at the officers, breaking the window of the apartment. Lugo also caused considerable damage to the interior of the home. Officers forced entry and apprehended Lugo, who was taken to the Cottonwood County Jail. He is charged with felony  counts of 2nd Degree Assault
The Windom Police Department was assisted by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Lake Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Ambulance and the Windom Fire Department.
