Winthrop man sentenced for DWI arrest after 100 mph chase through Morton
A Winthrop man, Damon Jon Muchow, age 33, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for leading police on a high speed chase through Redwood County last October.
According to court documents, shortly after midnight on Oct. 15 a Lower Sioux Police officer noted a vehicle driving along County Road 2 at a high rate of speed. The driver responded by accelerating onto Highway 71, then east onto Highway 91, into a ditch and back onto the road, and through Morton at high speed. At times the vehicle exceeded 100 mph before finally stopping near mile marker 85.
The driver, Muchow, acknowledged he was impaired. A preliminary search of the vehicle showed marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and an open bottle of beer in the cup holder. A records search showed Muchow had had his license canceled twice before for safety or impaired driving issues.
On April 15 Muchow was sentenced for felony-level fleeing a police officer and DWI to a total of 364 days local confinement, three years supervised probation, 16 hours community service, and fines and fees of $1,015.
