Redwood Falls man sentenced for failure to keep his predatory offender registry updated

A Redwood Falls man, David Lee Backdahl, age 62, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for not updating his registration as a predatory offender.

According to court documents, on July 6, 2023, a Redwood Falls police officer went to Backdahl’s current residence to do a compliance check. Backdahl is required to be registered until Sept. 2030 with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension as a predatory offender.

Backdahl stated all the information on his predatory offender registry was up to date, including phone numbers and place of employment.

However, back at the police station, the officer noted Backdahl had two additional active phone numbers. When asked about them, Backdahl said they were phones he no longer used. Backdahl also acknowledged he hadn’t been working for his listed place of employment for the previous three weeks.

On April 8, Backdahl was sentenced for felony-level failure to fulfill his registration requirements to 19 months in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for five years, 30 days local confinement, five years supervised probation, and fines and fees of $385.
