Redwood County votes solid red in midterm election

When the final result of Tuesday’s midterm elections came in, one thing was clear about Redwood County: it is about as Republican as it gets. In all statewide contests in which party affiliation was a concern, Redwood County elected the Republican every time.
That doesn’t mean those candidates won statewide, however. Although Redwood County preferred Republican Scott Jensen for governor, Democrat Tim Walz still came out ahead in the end.
Redwood County also prefered the GOP’s Ryan Wilson for state auditor, while Democrat Julie Blaha won. For attorney general, the county also prefered Jim Schultz to Keith Ellison, although Ellison came out ahead statewide.
Two southwest Minnesota Republican incumbents were reelected with Redwood County’s help: State Senator Gary Dahms of Redwood Falls, and House Representative Paul Torkelson of Hanska.
