Morton man makes first court appearance for shooting Willmar woman Monday

Billy Jo Fischer, age 41, of Morton, made his first appearance in Yellow Medicine County District Court on Thursday after being accused of shooting a woman in the leg on Monday.

Court documents state Fischer allegedly shot a 31 year old Willmar woman in the leg during a domestic dispute as they drove away from Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort Monday evening. Fischer was arrested the next morning at a residence in Granite Falls. The shooting victim is currently hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Fischer has been charged with 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of a Firearm After Being Convicted of a Violent Crime. Unconditional bail for Fischer was set at $250,000. His next court appearance is a settlement conference with Judge Dwayne Knutsen on April 19.
