Andrea Lieser has been sworn in as the newest District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Fifth Judicial District. Lieser is filling a new district court judgeship in Blue Earth County, chambered in Mankato. The Fifth Judicial District has 18 judges serving in 15 counties in southwest Minnesota, including Redwood, Brown, Cottonwood, Lyon, and Watonwan.

The investiture ceremony took place on Nov. 9, at the Blue Earth County Justice Center. Prior to being appointed to a judgeship by Governor Tim Walz, Lieser served as a Deputy County Attorney in the Brown County Attorney’s Office, where her responsibilities included prosecuting felony and gross misdemeanor cases.

Judge Lieser in an active member of her community, serving as a volunteer board member on the New Ulm Community Garden Board, a volunteer at her children’s elementary school, a member of the New Ulm Women’s Forum, and a member of the League of Women Voters New Ulm Chapter. She also volunteered as a commissioner on the New Ulm City Police Commission, a member of the Predatory Offender Work Group, and served on the Brown County Drug Court Team, where she assisted in the application and referral process and attended Drug Court hearings. Lieser earned her B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College and her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.
