Cosmos man dies, passenger injured, in Renville County rollover Saturday

A Cosmos man died, and his passenger seriously injured, in a Renville County rollover Saturday evening.

On May 4, at about 8:41 p.m., the Renville  County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Meeker County Sheriff’s  Office of a one vehicle rollover crash near the intersection of  Meeker-Renville Line Rd & Meeker Co Rd 1, about 11  miles north of Buffalo Lake.  

Preliminary investigation indicated a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan driven  by Donald Deleeuw, age 89, of Cosmos, was travelling southbound  on Meeker County Rd 1, failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection with  Meeker-Renville Line Rd, entered the ditch and overturned.  

Deleeuw was pronounced dead at the scene. The only passenger, Burnice Deleeuw, age 90, of Cosmos, was transported to Hutchinson Health Hospital with serious injuries.  

Assisting the Renville County Sheriff’s office on scene were the Cosmos Fire  Department, Cosmos Ambulance Service, Allina Ambulance, Meeker County  Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol.  The crash remains under investigation by the Renville County Sheriff’s Office and  the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
