A Willmar man with a history of erratic behavior stabbed a hospital employee in Willmar Monday morning.

At about 11:33 a.m. on April 1, Willmar Police were dispatched to the CentraCare Emergency Department in Willmar on an immediate request for assistance with a combative patient.
A 31 year old male from Willmar who had been in the hospital for an apparent mental health issue had produced a knife and had stabbed a CentraCare employee. The employee was injured but escaped to safety while the suspect was subdued by CentraCare Security, EMS and other Emergency Department staff.
The CentraCare employee suffered serious injury and was treated. His or her current medical condition is unknown. The suspect injured himself during the assault, was treated, then transported to the Kandiyohi County Jail pending charges of 1st Degree Assault and 2nd Degree Assault. The suspect has a significant history of erratic behavior and is currently on probation for a different 2nd degree assault case.
The investigation is ongoing.
