Two Montevideo residents were killed when their vehicle collided with an SUV in McLeod County Thursday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, on Aug. 18 Wilmer Herrera, age 25, of Montevideo was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion westbound on Highway 7. At about 11:03 a.m., Herrera’s vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2020 Ford Explorer being driven by Marshal Angela Schmidt, age 54, of Danube.

Wilmer Herrera was declared deceased at the scene, as was his passenger Fanny Ramirez Perez, age 21, of Montevideo. A juvenile, Wilmer Osmani Espinoza-Ramirez Jr., age two, was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Schmidt and her passenger, Marcia Jean Schmidt, age 55, of Willmar, were both transported to the hospital in Hutchinson with non-life threatening injuries.

Assisting on the scene were the McLeod County, Allina and Silver Lake Ambulances, and Silver Lake Fire Department.
