A Renville Man, Jeremy Louis Burrell, age 42, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for burglarizing the home of a recently deceased person.

According to court documents, on Feb. 26, 2021, at about 7:55 a.m., the Lamberton Police Department was contacted with a report that Burrell was inside a residence, having entered through the window. On the previous day, law enforcement had done a welfare check on that residence, found the owner deceased, and blocked off the residence with evidence tape.

Law enforcement arrived and found a broken basement window, and a cordless drill lying in the bushes nearby. Officers found Burrell in the house, with two pliers, one vice grip, and a cordless saw in his pockets. He stated he had been given permission to be in the house — by the person who had reported him to police. Burrell then stated he lived in the residence, and that he had seen no evidence tape outside.

When the deceased man’s family entered the residence, they found many drawers  had been opened, and that some of the deceased’s jewelry was missing. It was later confirmed that some of the jewelry Burrell was wearing when he was booked into jail belonged to the deceased.

On April 8, Burrell was sentenced for felony burglary in the second degree to 23 months in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for three years, 120 days local confinement, three years supervised probation, and fines and fees of $285.
