Motorists are advised to use caution on Highway 14/Highland Avenue in New Ulm starting Wednesday, March 6, weather permitting, as workers begin removing trees and brush in preparation for construction of a roundabout at this intersection, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The tree removal will have little impact to traffic. However, motorists are advised to watch for workers and equipment along the shoulder. The work needs to be done early in the year to prevent protected bats from making their homes in the trees. The tree clearing work is expected to be complete by March 7, weather permitting.

The tree removal is preliminary work for construction of a single-lane roundabout at Highway 14/Highland Avenue. The project also includes new sidewalk, trail, and lighting. Construction on the project is expected to begin in early May and continue until early July, weather permitting.

M. R. Paving & Excavating, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $2,265,772.52.
