Renville County Board opposes “sanctuary state” bill at MN Legislature

The Renville County Board has passed a resolution opposing a bill at the Minnesota Legislature that would forbid local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with the federal government on immigration issues.

Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable says his office considers the federal government a partner, and stopping cooperation with them is dangerous for the state. Hable says to “specifically prohibit police officers from talking with each other and helping each other out goes against the very essence of what policing is.”

Hable says while there is rare interaction between the two agencies on a day-to-day basis, he does not want to stop the “flow of intelligence between them” when wanted or needed.

McLeod County has passed a similar resolution, but both are largely symbolic.
