A Redwood Falls man, Russel George O’Brian, age 27, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for felony-level drug possession.

According to court documents, on Jan. 17 of this year, the Redwood Falls Police Department assisted the Minnesota Department of Corrections on a compliance check for O’Brian at his residence. During a search, the department’s K-9 officer alerted officers about several areas of the residence, especially a dresser in a bedroom room of the basement. A search of the dressed turned up drug paraphernalia. Further search also turned up 211.2 grams of marijuana, and 9.5 grams of psychedelic mushrooms.

Five days later, officers reviewed O’Brian’s phone for calls and messages related to this incident. One text written by O’Brian had directed another person to grab a bag from the dresser in the basement and take it to another location.

On March 18, O’Brian was convicted of fifth degree drug possession, and sentenced to 24 months at the correctional facility at St. Cloud.
