A Redwood Falls man, Taquez Marquis Perkins, age 26, has been sentenced in Redwood County Court for felony level drug offenses.

According to court documents, on May 21, 2020, a Lower Sioux Tribal Police Officer observed a vehicle headed westbound on Reservation Highway 101. The officer stopped the vehicle since, at the time of COVID rules, Tribal Ordinance required shelter in place and reservation closure. The driver claimed the car was a rental from Willmar, but a check of the vehicle showed it was actually reported stolen from Lyon County. A search of the vehicle showed it had a variety of illegal drugs.

Perkins, a passenger in the vehicle, had an active warrant for his arrest out of Redwood County and a prior controlled substance crime in the fifth degree from Redwood County. At the Redwood County jail he tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, and THC.

On June 5, Perkins was sentenced to 15 months in the correctional facility in St. Cloud for felony controlled substance crime in the fifth degree.
