Redwood Falls man sentenced for DWI while claiming to be in fentanyl withdrawal

A Redwood Falls man, Dakota Roy Lundquist, age 27 was sentenced in Redwood County court for DWI and felony-level drug possession.

According to court documents, on June 9 of last year, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a man who had just left CentraCare – Redwood, apparently under the influence of drugs. The deputy located the man’s vehicle as it made a U-turn on a county road without stopping for a stop sign, and nearly hitting a road worker.

After the deputy stopped the car, Lundquist failed to produce his drivers license or proof of insurance. He claimed he needed to go to detox because he was withdrawing from using fentanyl. A search of Lundquist’s vehicle turned up three pills and four packages of Schedule 1 or 2 substances. A urine sample indicated the presence of fentanyl or norfentanyl in Lundquist’s blood.

On Sept. 18, Lundquist was sentenced to misdemeanor DWI and felony drug possession to a total of 90 days local confinement, stayed 30 days for two years, three years supervised probation, and fines and fees of $915.
