Granite Falls Mayor Dave Smiglewski passes away

The City of Granite Falls reports Granite Falls Mayor Dave Smiglewski, age 70, died last Friday in Washington DC.

According to the West Central Tribune, Smiglewski was on a visit to lobby for more highway funding for southwest Minnesota. His family stated he died of complications of ALS, which he was diagnosed with three years ago.

Before becoming mayor of Granite Falls in 1996, Smiglewski was a maintenance and track inspector for 30 years with the BNSF Railway, and then publisher for the Granite Falls Advocate-Tribune newspaper.
