A Willmar property owner was injured after being attacked by someone trying to break into a camper Monday.

At about 7:17 p.m. on Nov. 20, Willmar Police were dispatched to the 900 block of 5th St SE on the report of a homeowner finding someone breaking into a camper on their property.
When the homeowner confronted the individual, the homeowner was attacked briefly before the suspect ran away. The suspect was located moments later near 5th St and Augusta Ave SE by a family member who was also attacked by the suspect. Officers responded to the updated address and took the suspect into custody.
The suspect was identified as Jean Burgos Nunez, age 27, of Willmar. He was held in the Kandiyohi County Jail pending charges of 5th degree assault (two counts), tampering with a motor vehicle, obstructing legal process and 5th degree drug possession.
The homeowner was treated for injuries at CentraCare hospital. The suspect was also treated for minor injuries before being brought to the jail.
Willmar PD was assisted by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and CentraCare EMS.
