Two people received life-threatening injuries when vehicles they were riding in collided on icy roads near Granite Falls on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at about 4:o6 p.m. on Jan. 23, Kirsten Kay Church, age 32, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, was southbound on Highway 23. At the same time, Amaro Rolando Estrada, age 54, was westbound on Highway 274. At the intersection of the two roads, their vehicles collided.

Church was taken to the Granite Falls hospital with non-life threatening injuries, along with infant passenger Bronson Richard Dahl. Another passenger in Church’s vehicle, Case Thomas Church, age 7, was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Estrada was also taken to the Granite Falls hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while his passenger, Raymon Flores-Lamar, age 54, was taken to the hospital with more severe injuries.

The Granite Falls Fire and Rescue and Police Department, Upper Sioux Police Department, and Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
