A project to install structural snow fencing on segments of Highway 19 and Highway 40 begins Monday, Oct. 31. One section will be installed on Highway 19 between Morton and Franklin. The second section is located on Highway 40 east of Milan.

Crews will be working off the roadway and traffic will not be impacted; however, drivers should watch for workers and slow-moving equipment entering and exiting the roadway.

Structural snow fences bring multiple benefits to a roadside, including the capacity to:

  • Prevent big snow drifts and icy roads
  • Improve driver visibility and reduce vehicle crashes
  • Improve driver mobility
  • Lessen environmental impact with less salt use, fewer truck trips and less fuel consumption

The project is scheduled to be completed within two weeks, depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances. The project cost is $507,350 and H & R Construction is the contractor.
