A Morton man, Richard Leo Peters, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for a felony-level assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to court records, on Sept. 30, 2022, the Redwood Falls Police Department was dispatched to a residence in Redwood Falls on a report of a person wielding a gun. Two witnesses stated Peters and another individual had arrived at about 4 a.m., entered without permission, and physically assaulted them. Security camera footage confirmed Peters and the other man had entered the residence.

The witnesses stated Peters and the other man returned about an hour later to get a phone lost in the earlier assault. One witness stated Peters pulled a gun and pointed it at him. Later that day, a third witness reported she had let Peters and the other man borrow her vehicle, and that Peters had her handgun.

On Aug. 14, Peters was sentenced to 98 months in the correctional facility at St. Cloud after assaulting others.
