The Minnesota Department of Transportation is inviting area residents to attend an open house April 3 to learn about the Highway 212 resurfacing and Sacred Heart reconstruction project.

Highway 212 will be resurfaced with concrete from just east of Highway 23 to County Road 6 in Renville. Highway 212 will be reconstructed through Sacred Heart; sidewalks, pedestrian ramps and adjacent driveways will be upgraded to meet current American with Disabilities Act standards. Two storm water ponds are planned as part of storm sewer upgrades. Also, a westbound passing lane will be constructed between Granite Falls and Sacred Heart as part of the project.

A detour is required to complete the project. The detour of Highway 212 is scheduled to be in place from May 1 through October 31. Access will be open to those who live, work, or visit homes and businesses along Highway 212 in the construction work zone.

Shafer Contracting Co., Inc., is the contractor, and the project cost is $25.5 million.

The open house will be held on Monday, April 3 at Sacred Heart Community Center, 309 1st Ave., Sacred Heart, and run from 4 to 6 p.m. There are no formal presentations and people are invited to stop by at their convenience during open house hours. MnDOT staff and the contractor will be available to answer questions about the construction phase of the project, including the timeline and detours.
