A Brainerd man, Conner Zane Hey, age 25, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for firing a  shotgun into the air in Walnut Grove.

According to court documents, on Aug. 30, 2020, a Redwood County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to 8th Street in Walnut Grove on a report a man had pulled out a shotgun and fired it into the air. The deputy made contact with two victims who claimed they had been outside a vehicle owned by one of the victims. They told deputies that Hey started looking into the other victim’s truck. When one of the victims asked Hey what he was doing, Hey accused the victims of having been following Hey around town.

One of the victims noted that Hey appeared to be holding something under his clothing. When the victim asked if it was a gun, Hey pulled out a short shotgun, racked the gun causing the shell to come out, pointed the shotgun into the air, and fired a round.

Hey then left.

The deputy found a live shotgun shell and a spent shotgun shell at the scene.

On April 18, Conner Zane Hey was sentenced for reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality, with a stay of imposition, to 60 days local confinement with credit for 60 days time served, three years supervised probation, and fees and fines of $685.
