Joann (Schemmel) Dolezal

Joann (Schemmel) Dolezal, 89, of Redwood Falls, MN, died in peace January 1, 2024, with her family near her. Joann was born June 13, 1934, at the family home near Renville, MN. She was the oldest of nine children and graduated from Danube High School in 1952.

Joann met Miloyd ‘Buddy’ Dolezal at the Church of St. Mary of Bechyn, MN where they were married June 30, 1952. Together, Joann and Buddy were blessed with five children, a successful family farm and countless important and fun celebrations with family and friends. Joann and Buddy always took time for visitors who stopped by their farm, and they always had room for one more at their table.

Joann took care of the home while Buddy was farming.  When she wasn’t cooking, taking care of the yard and garden, or driving sugar beet truck, Joann enjoyed hobbies including painting ceramics, making quilts, and creating photo albums. She loved to make Christmas special for her family with a traditional Christmas dinner, decorating the tree, attending Mass and baking Christmas cookies.

Joann prayed the Rosary often, and she had a special reverence for Our Blessed Mother Mary.

Joann was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Miloyd (Buddy) Dolezal; her parents, Woodrow Schemmel Sr and Helen (Ryan) Schemmel; her brothers, Pat, Roger, Jim and Terry Schemmel and her sister, Connie (Schemmel) Bloedow.

Joann is survived by her children, Ross (Peggy) of Redwood Falls, MN, Pat Rauenhorst (Dave) of Olivia, MN, Randy (Eileen) of Redwood Falls, MN, Gail Hendrickson (Kurt) of Raleigh, NC, and Barb of Alexandria, MN. She is survived as well by her siblings, Dory Horejsi (Tony) of Redwood Falls, MN; Woody Schemmel Jr of New London, MN and Peggy Gort of Litchfield, MN, and her in-laws, Linda Schemmel, Charlie Bloedow, Glennys Schemmel and Connie Peterson.

I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: From now on those who die believing in the Lord are blessed.” “Yes,” says the Spirit. “Let them rest from their hard work.  What they have done goes with them.” (Revelation 14:13)
