Irene Nora Current
Irene Nora Current passed away February 10, 2021 at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center.
She was born on October 28,1926 at home in Eden Township, Brown County, Minnesota to William Henry and Florence Evelyn (Kuelbs) Hale. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1944. Irene married Douglas Keith Current June 4,1948 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. They were married 57 years and 8 months before Doug’s passing in 2006. She worked in the office at A.J. Pietrus and Sons for over 40 years. She was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church and served as the financial secretary from 1968-2013. Irene was Miss Sleepy Eye-Fire Queen in 1948. She enjoyed embroidery, cross stitch, reading, gardening and working outside, taking her children and the neighborhood kids on nature hikes and corresponding with relatives and friends through letters and cards- she had beautiful handwriting! She also loved old-time music and was very supportive of Doug’s involvement with several area bands.
Irene is survived by her children: Jeanne (Gary) Gauger of Springfield, MO, June (Tom) Rieff of North Mankato and Jeffrey Current of Sleepy Eye, her sister Norma Sellner of Sleepy Eye and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, sisters and brothers-in-law: Eldora (Armin) Dittbenner, Ruth (Lawrence) Schmidt, Shirley (Roger) Birkeland, and brother and sister-in-law William (Marilyn) Hale.
In our hearts we know God said, “well done, My good and faithful servant,” when she entered Heaven! It is our loss but Heaven’s gain.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 5th at 11am at the Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye.
Friends may call on the family from 10 to 11am prior to the service at the church.
Clergy will be Pastor Gerhart Miller.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

The family would prefer memorials be made to the Faith United Methodist Church or the donors choice in lieu of flowers.
