Duane Engstrom

Duane Engstrom, age 83, of Renville died Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Renville.  The Rev. Dan Bowman will officiate.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville.  Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church in Renville.

Duane Engstrom was born on May 25, 1939, in Montevideo, Minnesota to George A. and A. Melvina alim) Engstrom.  He grew up on a farm north of Renville and attended country school through the 8th grade.  Duane continued his education at Renville High School, graduating in 1957.  Following high school, he worked for area farmers and also drove truck hauling livestock to market.  Duane was united in marriage to Carol Schons on April 12, 1969, in Nicolett, Minnesota.  Following their marriage, they made their home on their farm north of Renville, and Duane continued to drive truck and farm.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Renville.  He enjoyed going to the sales barn, attending High School football games, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife Carol, his sons and daughters: Brian (and Bridget) Engstrom of Renville, Becky (and John) Ridl of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin (and Danielle) Engstrom of Clara City, and Karen (and Jonathan) Wulf of Norwood Young America; his grandchildren: Brooke and Blake Engstrom, Christopher (and Sarah) Ridl, Austin (and Kayler) Ridl, Zachary Ridl, Madalyn, Layla, Tessa, McKenly, and Kaden Engstrom, Preston Emmitt, and Remington Wulf; two great grandchildren: Lucy and Elise Ridl; his sister and brother: Ardus Vining of Clara City, and Eugene (and Shirley) Engstrom of Redwood Falls, his sisters-in-law: Sharon Steffen of Nicolett, Janet Miller of Springfield, IL, and Gail Schons of Fairmont; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law Victor and Evelyn Schons, and his brothers-in-law Mervyn Steffen and John Vining.
