Renville County Sheriff’s Office releases details, identity of body found in burned car Sunday
The Renville County Sheriff’s Office has released more details about the human remains found in a burned car on Sunday.
The deceased, the only occupant in the vehicle, has been identified as Charles D. Amberg, age 59, of rural Bird Island. Both the cause and manner of death are pending by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office. The vehicle involved was one known to be driven by Amberg.
On Dec. 4, at about 1 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burned vehicle located in a drainage ditch in the 81,000 block of 370th Street, about one mile west of Bird Island. Law enforcement located a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado that had been fully consumed by fire. Findings at the scene suggested the fire had occurred in the previous several hours.
Inside the vehicle, suspected human remains were discovered. The remains were sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and determination of the cause and manner of death.
The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Minnesota BCA, Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Minnesota State Patrol.
Investigation into the circumstances leading up to the vehicle’s discovery are ongoing.
