Most of the ordering was done early enough that supplies for the new Redwood County Justice Center haven’t been delayed too much.

Supply-chain issues are affecting construction projects all across the United State, but not the upcoming new Redwood County courthouse … too much.

While standing in the new Justice Center site this week, Jim Theurer, project supervisor for The Contegrity Group, told KLGR that the $10 million project has had only a few small glitches with supplies so far:

The next big project is to put on the roof starting in about three weeks, then as many doors and windows as possible so crews can do interior work over the winter. In about two weeks, crews will start work on the brick and stone work on the exterior walls.

The new secured elevator is being added to the law enforcement center so prisoners can get to the courthouse in greater security.

Also getting a lot of attention from the public is the new elevator and tunnel that will connect the law enforcement center to the new courthouse. Theurer said the plan is to start installing the pre-formed tunnel segments under the street around Nov. 1. Once the tunnel is in place and waterproofed, the street will be patched up.

Inside, the walls will soon go up for the two-story tall office space, the two courtrooms, rooms set aside for jurors and attorneys, and a secured holding space for prisoners to wait in before entering either courtroom.

Although it’s a county project, it’s still being built within the Redwood Falls city limits, and Theurer said the city inspectors have been very cooperative and easy to work with.

The two-story section will house offices for county staff, while two new courtrooms will fill the center section of the facility.

Once the new Redwood County Justice Center is finished, the old courthouse will be demolished, and its site used for a parking lot. The new Justice Center is expected to be finished in mid-2022.
