A Delhi man, Jesse Richard Carson, age 32, was sentenced in Redwood County Court last week for assaulting another man with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire.

According to court documents, on Nov. 7, 2022, the Redwood Falls Police Department was dispatched to an area in the south side of town on a 911 call of suspicious activity. Officers spoke to a witness on South Mill Street who stated two men, one of them Carson, had come to the residence to confront a man about money. The witness stated Carson had baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, and threatened to beat her with it.

The witness stated she saw Carson swing the bat at the victim, and strike him in the hands. After altercations involving Carson, the victim, and a second witness, Carson reportedly told everyone on the scene he would be back with more than a bat, and left. When officers examined the bat, they noted both fresh and dried blood on the barbed wire. The witness had fresh wounds on his hands and stomach.

Several hours later, Carson’s vehicle was located unoccupied outside a housing complex in Redwood Falls. After a struggle with officers in a residence, Carson was handcuffed and taken into custody.

On March 13, Jesse Richard Carson was convicted of felony second degree assault with a dangerous weapon and committed to 34 months at the correctional facility in St. Cloud.
