Marian “Corrine” Sander
Marian “Corrine” Sander, age 83, of Franklin, MN passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in rural Hector with Pastor Susan Christianson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Marian Corrine Sander was born on April 1, 1940 to Carl T. and Ethel (Toren) Anderson in New Ulm, MN. Her father started calling her by her middle name which is why she continued to go by Corrine. She graduated from Bird Island High School in 1959. After graduation, she began working for Munsingwear in the Twin Cities where she met her future husband Ralph, as they carpooled back and forth. Corrine was united in marriage to Ralph Sander on September 2, 1961 at her home church, Swedlanda Lutheran in rural Hector. They made their home on a farm in rural Franklin where they raised their five children, as well as cows, pigs, and chickens. She took on her role of farm wife very seriously by helping to mow the lawn, mended clothes and sewed as needed and for fun, as well as canned the produce from her garden to feed her family. From tomato sauce to apple juice, she had quite the stock of food. She liked baking and made birthdays special with her yellow angel food cake topped with chocolate frosting. Because of her strong love of cats, she kept the 20 outside ones well taken care of, while managing to make one a house cat. Her beloved Fluffy, was her furry companion that stayed by her side until she passed. Corrine and Ralph enjoyed playing cards together with family and friends and watching the Minnesota Twins. Together they participated in mixed bowling leagues and Corrine was part of a women’s league as well. She liked doing word search puzzles and attending social events. Her unwavering faith and genuine personality will be remembered by those who loved her dearly.
Corrine is survived by her husband, Ralph; her children: Julie (and Marcel) LaFond of Duluth, Rick (and Julie) Sander of Bird Island, Naomi (and Brad) Jansen of Bird Island, Ronda Kletscher of New Ulm, and Jonathan Sander of Bird Island; her 15 grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gary Lund; and sister-in-law, Becki (and Bill) Radermacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl T. and Ethel; her brothers, Jerome (and Bernadine) Anderson and Harris (and Betty) Anderson; and her sister, Janet Lund.
