Carl “Sonny” August Wallert, Jr.

Carl “Sonny” August Wallert, Jr, age 80, of Danube, died Sunday, March 28, 2021, at his home south of Danube.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN

Carl August Wallert, Jr, was born on January 8, 1941, on the family farm south of Danube to Carl August and Elizabeth (Semrau) Wallert, Sr.  He grew up in Bird Island, Minnesota and graduated from Bird Island High School in 1959.  Carl continued his education at Minnesota West Community Technical College in Canby, Minnesota.  Carl was united in marriage to Sandra DeGroat on February 10, 1962, in Bird Island. He worked for Larson’s John Deere in Stewart, Minnesota for 10 years.  Carl then worked for DX Mobil Station in Stewart.  In 1974, Carl and Sandra moved to the farm south of Danube and he continued to farm until now.  Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing, restoring tractors-especially 2 cylinder John Deere’s, and in his younger years, he enjoyed building racing motors and cars for dirt and ice racing.  He was always willing to share his mechanical knowledge with his sons, grandsons, or anyone who asked for his help.

Carl is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandra, his sons and daughter: Carl August IV of Danube, Vineva (and Frank) Wertish of Danube and their children: Michelle Braun (and Corri Zieske) and their children: Johanna, Lauren, and Ryan; all of Olivia, Scott (and Paige) Wertish and their children: Evan and Brett; of Bird Island, and Matthew Wertish of Willmar;  John (and Annette) of Arizona and their children: Justin (and Kirsten) Bjorklund and their son Ethan of Glenwood, Kayla (and Ryan) Moldestad and their son Abe of Belle Plain; and Chad (and Darla Heiderscheit) Wallert and his son Chad of Olivia; his siblings: Jerry (and Mary) Wallert of Clearlake, SD, Betty Schemmel of Bird Island, Elaine (and Jerry) Cloutier of Willmar, Karen Meyer of New Germany, Thomas (and Charlene) Wallert of Renville, and James Wallert of Olivia; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and Friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eddy Weller, and his sister Caroll Robben.
