A Willmar man, Adam Ryan Lagred, age 39, was sentenced in Redwood County Court last week for a domestic assault that occurred in Redwood County last May.

According to court documents, on May 28, 2021, at about 9 p.m., a Redwood County deputy was dispatched to an area business on a report of a female crying and bleeding. The deputy arrived to find a woman and a juvenile boy standing next to a truck and pointing at a nearby Pontiac Grand Prix. A male who worked at the business told the deputy as he was leaving he saw the woman run after him, telling him her boyfriend was acting crazy and threatening to kill her.

The man in the Pontiac, Adam Ryan Lagred, told the deputies he had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend while driving with her, and that she had started hitting herself in the face, and was going to report him. Officers noted Lagred had a strong oder of alcohol, slurred speech, and trouble maintaining his balance. He originally claimed the woman had been driving the vehicle, then changed his story and acknowledged he had been driving. He also admitted he did not have a valid drivers licence.

The victim stated Lagred had hit and bitten her on the side of her head where officers found fresh contusions. When asked how Lagrand had gotten blood on him, the victim stated she had been spitting to get her blood on him in case she was killed.

Lagred had prior convictions for domestic assault in 2011 and 2012, and a prior conviction for driving while impaired.

On March 21, Legred was sentenced for felony domestic assault to 21 months (stayed for three years) in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, local confinement of 75 days with credit for eight days time served, three years supervised probation, and fines and fees of $585. He was also sentenced for gross misdemeanor DWI to 365 days local confinement (stayed 290 days for two years with credit for eight days time served), two years supervised probation, and $930 in fines and fees.
