Willmar man leads law enforcement on high speed chase Wednesday morning

A Willmar driver pulled over for standardized field testing gave law enforcement a high speed chase instead on Wednesday morning.

On May 13, at about 9:10 a.m., Matthew Henry Freeman of Willmar was stopped on Highway 12 by a CEE-VI Task Force Field Agent. When the agent asked Freeman to exit his 2012 Cadillac CTS, Freeman refused to get out, then fled from the scene.

Freemen took off westbound on Hwy 12 at speeds between 60 and 90 mph. He was pursued by the Agent and by a Kandiyohi County Deputy who was on the scene.

On Hwy 12 near Haug Implement and Co Rd 9, several attempts were made to use tire deflation equipment. The vehicle continued southbound on the Hwy 23 bypass from Hwy 12. Freemen exited at the Co Rd 23 exit into Willmar, and turned south on Lakeland Drive. A Kandiyohi County Deputy was able to use a Pursuit Intervention Technique to disable the vehicle. At that point, Freeman gave up with no resistance.

Charges are pending against Freeman. There was minor damage to the suspect vehicle and one sheriff’s office squad during the pursuit intervention technique.

Agencies involved in the pursuit were Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, CEE-VI Task Force, MN State Patrol and Willmar Police Department.
