Redwood County Veterans Cemetery site turned over to state, construction sent out for bids

It’s official now: the Redwood County Board has turned the site for the upcoming Redwood County Veterans Cemetery over to the State of Minnesota. With that step in place, the state has sent out a request for bids to companies who might be interested in doing the actual site construction, according to Redwood County Administrator Vicki Knobloch Kletcher.
The project has been years in the making, with the county, the state, and the federal governments all having to coordinate on funding and timing to make it happen. As agreed beforehand Redwood County was responsible for finding the potential site and doing the original purchase and land surveys, but all responsibilities for constructing and maintaining the veterans cemetery are being handled by the state now.

Project Completion Date: Oct. 2, 2023

The following summary is a general guide to the scope of work.
1. Site work including erosion control, site grading, bituminous street installation, concrete flatwork, concrete curb.
2. Utilities including storm sewer installation, septic system, and well provisions.
3. Buildings including cast concrete foundations, masonry and stone veneer cavity walls, wood framed roofs, metal buildings, masonry site monuments.
4. Site work vertical elements including Columbaria, entrance monument and gates,flag assembly area.
5. Landscaping and irrigation.

The long-hoped for Redwood County Veterans Cemetery is set to have its groundbreaking ceremony this coming September, according to the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.
