Verna Mude was born on December 23, 1917 in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, MN to Henry and Elsie (Trebesch) Rosenau. She was baptized on February 3, 1918 and confirmed on March 29, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. After completing 8th grade, Verna worked for various families performing housekeeping duties. She met Elvin Mude at one of those homes and the couple was married on May 29, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church. Her and Elvin lived on various farms until settling on a farm near Sanborn. In 1972, the couple retired from farming and moved into Springfield. Verna worked at the Springfield Community Hospital in the laundry department for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Springfield. Verna was known for her delicious baking, especially sweet bread, rolls, and buns. She loved gardening and enjoyed watching and waiting for God’s creation to grow. Family visits always brought a smile. She spent a great deal of time looking at her family photo albums. Bingo, attending church, and playing cards with Adeline, Esther, Norma, and St. John Lutheran Home staff made many enjoyable memories while waiting for her loving Savior to call her home which He did on Mother’s Day.
