Willmar teens arrested during traffic stop for outstanding warrants, illegal possession of firearm
Several teenagers were arrested in Willmar Friday during a traffic stop for a variety of charges, including riot, assault, and illegal possession of a firearm.
At about 7:37 p.m. on Dec. 9, a Willmar Police Officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on 19th Ave near 11th St. SW. The driver, a 19 year old male from Willmar had several outstanding warrants. He was arrested on scene. Two additional juvenile occupants of the vehicle were identified, and a loaded handgun was found under a seat.
The driver was transported to the Kandiyohi County Jail pending warrant charges of 3rd degree riot, 5th degree assault and disorderly conduct. New charges potentially include possessing a pistol without a permit, driving after revocation, and speeding.
A 16 year old male was also arrested and transported to Prairie Lakes Youth Programs. Potential charge includes possession of a pistol by a juvenile. The firearm was taken as evidence and the investigation remains ongoing.
