A Willmar man died after being struck by a bullet while he was working in his garage Friday evening.

According to his family, at about 7:40 p.m. David Delfosse, age 41, was working in his garage in the 1000 block of 4th Street SW when the family witnessed him suddenly collapse. EMTs and law officers who provided medical care found Delfosse had a penetrating injury to the chest.
Delfosse was transported to Carris Hospital as EMTs continued resuscitation efforts, but Delfosse was later pronounced deceased.
Officers investigating the scene found a bullet hole that had completely penetrated a garage wall. Evidence indicates an errant bullet came from a location off of the Defosse’s property, through the garage wall, and struck him.
The deceased was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for a forensic autopsy. Additional investigative resources were provided by the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and MN BCA Crime Scene Team.
On Saturday morning, the Willmar Police Department SWAT team served a high-risk search warrant on a residence in the 1000 block of 3rd St SW as part of this investigation. No immediate arrests were made.
The case is being investigated as a homicide. At this point there is no evidence to indicate the homeowner was an intended target or victim. There is also no evidence to indicate an immediate safety concern to the general public.

They also ask that residents living in that area review home security camera footage and notify law enforcement of any suspicious behavior or audio / video in which any gunshots can be heard.
