The Renville City Council held a special meeting Tuesday night and unanimously approved a conditional use permit for Forsman Farms, based in Wright County. Forsman has purchased the former Rembrandt Foods site, and will be building a new egg-laying operation.

Renville City Administrator Shane Wohlman says Forsman plans on incorporating the latest technology to limit environmental nuisances, flies, rodents, noise, dust and odors. Forsman will have 1.3 million egg laying chickens and 340,000 chicken pullets, which is actually fewer birds than Rembrandt had. Rembrandt closed in 2019, putting 50 people out of work. Forsman plans to eventually hire 30 people.
