Redwood Falls man sentenced for felony domestic assault and violating no-contact order
A Redwood Falls man, Justin Daniel Okins, age 38, was sentenced in Redwood County District Court for felony domestic assault and violating a no-contact order after an incident last September.
According to court documents, on Sept. 20, the Redwood Falls Police Department was called to a residence on a report of an ongoing domestic assault. Officers arrived to hear a man and a woman shouting inside. The woman left to come outside, holding two broken cell phones. The victim told the officers the phones had been broken by Okins throwing them on the sidewalk outside the residence after she had threatened to call 911, and that she had used her daughter’s phone to notify law enforcement. Officers noticed broken glass consistent with the front screen of cell phones on the sidewalk.
Later investigation showed that Okins has previous convictions for domestic violence, and for violating a non-contact order.
On Dec. 23, Justin Okins was sentenced for a total of up to 21 months in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for 5 years, five years supervised probation, 120 days local confinement, and fines and fees of $820.
