Redwood Falls man sentenced for attacking law officers while high

A Redwood Falls man, Seth Alan Ricord, age 42, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for attacking law officers while high.

According to court documents, on Nov. 6, 2023, a Redwood County deputy was followed into the county impound lot parking lot on the western edge of Redwood Falls by a small pickup truck. The driver, Ricord, got out of the pickup and approached the deputy. When the pickup began rolling backward Ricord got in to stop it, refused to leave the vehicle, then finally got out.

Based on Ricord’s behavior, the deputy asked if he had been smoking methamphetamine. Ricord kept waving his arms, spinning in a circle, and saying “peace be with you” continuously. The deputy told Ricord he was not free to leave until the deputy was assured he was safe to drive a vehicle.

During the standard physical tests for DWI, Ricord charged deputies and tried to get back into the pickup, yelling and screaming. Officers brought Ricord to the ground, where he continued to fight and scream. As a result of the altercation, one deputy received multiple cuts.

On Jan. 29, Ricord was sentenced for felony assault of a peace officer and misdemeanor DWI to a total of 90 days local confinement, three years supervised probation, and $1,633 fines, fees, and restitution.
