Morgan woman sentenced for aiding an offender wanted on felony warrant

A Morgan woman was sentenced in Redwood County Court this month for helping to conceal a man wanted on a felony warrant.

According to court records, on July 6 of this year, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office received information a felon wanted on a Department of Corrections warrant was in a residence in Morgan. The sheriff’s office had previously tried to apprehend that felon eight previous times. In previous instances, the felon had been described as being at the home of Brittany Ann Plaetz, age 35. Deputies had informed Plaetz multiple times that the felon was wanted on a warrant, and that if she knew of his whereabouts she should contact them.

On July 6, law enforcement pounded on the door of Plaetz’s residence and announced their presence. Deputies could hear someone running around in the house, then silence.

Deputies forced their way into the house, and found the wanted felon hiding under various items in a crawl space. Plaetz and her children were located in the basement of the residence. During in interview with the felon, he stated he had been staying with Plaetz every other weekend.

On Monday, Nov. 1, Plaetz entered a guilty plea, and was issued a stay of imposition, with local confinement of 30 days, with credit for 10 days time served, two years of supervised probation, and fees and fines of $385.
