More details released on Willmar shooting (updated)
Willmar Police have released more details on a shooting in Willmar last week.
According to the release, on Tuesday morning 25-year-old Dylan Malvin of Raymond and 26-year-old Juan Leal of Willmar got into an argument in the 1300 Block of Dana Drive Southeast. Witnesses told police Malvin brandished a “blunt edged weapon”. Leal retrieved a handgun and shot Malvin one time in the torso.
Police were called at 9:48 a.m., and when officers arrived, they found Malvin lying in the street and gave him first aid. Leal was standing in the roadway with a handgun but immediately surrendered when police arrived. He was in legal possession of the handgun.
According to Malvin’s Caringbridge.com page, Malvin was taken off a ventilator Sunday and is now breathing on his own. He is no longer in the intensive care unit at Hennepin County Medical Center. An earlier Facebook post by a relative said the bullet shattered one of Malvin’s spinal discs.
Leal was taken into custody. Charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing. Willmar Police were assisted by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department, The State Patrol, The Minnesota BCA and Centra Care EMS.
