Marshall man sentenced in Redwood County Court for felony falsely reporting crime, aiding offender
A Marshall man, Geovanny Eluardo Gaitan-Alfaro, age 18, has been sentenced in Redwood County Court for felony-level falsely reporting of a crime and aiding a felony offender in Redwood Falls last year.
According to court records, on Nov. 13, 2022, Redwood Falls police officers were called to an apartment complex in Redwood Falls on a report of a man being shot. Officers met with two men, Gaitan-Alfraro and a friend. The friend had been shot in the hand, and claimed he had been shot at by a dark-colored sedan in the parking lot. Gaitan-Alfraro claimed two shots had been fired, and led officers to where the shooting had supposedly happened. Officers found no shell casings or blood spatterings.
Officers spoke to witnesses in the apartment complex who stated they had heard one gunshot, from inside an apartment. A witness told officers his friend had accidentally shot himself in the witness’s apartment. Inside the apartment officers found blood spatters, and a bullet was found in the drywall of the apartment.
After further questioning, Gaitan-Alfraro admitted his friend had accidentally shot himself in the apartment. A check of the friends criminal history showed previous felony-level robbery.
On August 21, Gaitan-Alfraro was sentenced to 12 months in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for three years, 17 days local confinement, and fines and fees of $635.
