The Redwood County Highway Department announced Wednesday evening that the County Road 17 “Goldmine” Bridge over the Minnesota River is permanently closed to traffic. This is due to cracked lower steel chords. Additionally floor stringers are in very poor condition. The highway department believes the bridge could collapse at any moment.

The Goldmine Bridge was originally built in 1903. The Redwood County Highway Department has secured $2.8 million dollars in federal funding for rehabilitation or reconstruction to occur in 2026 and 2027.

Rehabilitation or reconstruction options will be coordinated with the Minnesota Office of Environmental Stewardship and Cultural Resources Historian, along with the Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, among other local, state and federal organizations.
