G-F-W school board votes to keep Fairfax school open
The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop school board voted three to three at Monday evening’s meeting about whether to close the Fairfax intermediate school campus next year. A divided vote means the school will remain open.
The possibility of closing the school was part of a three-year plan to reduce the district’s statutory operating debt. As a result of the evenly-divided vote, the school board must now find ways to cut additional costs instead.
Earlier this month, the City of Fairfax offered to pay the facility’s utilities for up to four years, and to raise funds for a new playground.
