Freezing rain causes two Renville County crashes Saturday morning
Freezing rain caused two vehicles to crash in Renville County on Saturday morning.
At about 6:14 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a one vehicle rollover on Renville County Road 4, about eight miles southwest of Hector. A 2012 Ford F150, driven by 21 year old Braden Chan of Renville, was traveling eastbound on Renville County Road 4 when the vehicle started sliding on the ice. The vehicle went off the road and rolled.
Chan received non-life threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported to Renville County Hospital for evaluation. Assisting on the scene were the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Hector Fire Department, and Olivia Ambulance.
Several hours later, at about 9:26 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a garbage truck rollover about five miles east of Buffalo Lake. A 2019 Peterbilt Garbage Truck owned by West Central Sanitation was traveling northbound on Renville County Road 20 when the vehicle started sliding on the icy roads. The vehicle went off the road and rolled.
The vehicle was driven by 38 year old Brent Johnson of Redwood Falls. Johnson and his passenger, 49 year old Gregory Benson of Willmar, sustained no injuries as a result of this crash. Road conditions at the time were a significant factor in the cause of the crash.
