Felon with history of firearms convictions caught after attempted murder in Willmar Thursday
A felon with an extensive history of firearms violations was captured after a drive-by shooting in Willmar Thursday afternoon.
According to the Willmar Police Department, on March 28, at about 1:07 p.m., the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office learned of shots fired from a vehicle toward an individual leaving a driveway in a separate vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was located by a Willmar Police Officer in Willmar, where the suspect vehicle managed to elude law enforcement. The vehicle eventually left the road in the 1700 block of Willmar Avenue SW. The alleged shooter was apprehended in a nearby shed without incident. Two other individuals fled the scene of the suspect vehicle and have not been located.
Charges being considered include Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Assault, Drive by Shooting, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The Willmar Police Department notes the captured suspect has an extensive criminal history with at least two prior convictions for felon in possession of a firearm.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Willmar Police Department and the CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force.
