The Minnesota D-N-R continues its chronic wasting disease (CWD) surveillance efforts this deer season.

Wildlife health supervisor Erik Hildebrand says hunters submitted just over 12 thousand samples to be tested for C-W-D. He says many cases are still pending but so far “we’re are sitting 23 confirmed positive deer and we have 13 additional suspects on top of that.” Hildebrand says most of the confirmed cases are in the southeast corner of the state but there are two in northwest Minnesota and one in the Grand Rapids area.

There were 33 positive C-W-D cases in hunter harvested deer last year.
