Belview man sentenced for felony assault-by-strangulation
A Belview man, Adrian Delatorre, age 20, has been sentenced in Redwood County Court for felony-level domestic assault-by-strangulation.
According to court documents, on Dec. 22 of last year, a Redwood County deputy went to a Belview residence to do a wellness check on a woman who had not been to work in two days and was not answering her phone. The deputy was aware from prior contacts that Delatorre also lived at that residence.
Delatorre was in the residence when the victim was found. The victim was obviously upset and the deputy had her step outside so he could speak to her. Sitting in the squad car, the victim told of several instances when Delatorre had assaulted her, would not allow her to use her phone, and not had allowed her to leave the residence. She had several bruises, and stated that Delatorre had cut her with a box cutter.
Delatorre admitted to the deputy that things occasionally got physical between him and the victim. He had her phone, and a box cutter, on his person. A witness stated that Delatorre had chased customers out of the victim’s workplace, and intimidated them.
On March 11, Delatorre was sentenced to 12 months, one day in the correctional facility in St. Cloud, stayed for three years, 90 days local confinement, three years supervised probation, and $585 in fines and fees.
