According to state officials this week, the old HyLife pork processing plant in Windom may reopen in several months. The plant was closed on June 2, at the cost of over 1,000 workers losing their jobs.

The plant was purchased earlier this spring by Premium Iowa Pork for $14 million. At the time, HyLife was reporting monthly losses of up to $6 million. Premium Iowa Pork also currently owns a plant in Luverne.

State officials say the company is currently assessing the facility, with the possibility of upgrading equipment.
