Tom Miller, age 82, of Olivia, MN died Sunday, July 5, 2020 surrounded by his family at home.  Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant.  Burial is in the church cemetery.  Visitation is Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia.  Visitation continues for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Renville County Hospice or St. Mary’s School of Bird Island. Please wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.

Thomas Furn Miller was born on January 7, 1938 at home in Olivia to Leonard and Catherine (Weis) Miller. He grew up in Olivia and graduated from Olivia High School in 1957 where he excelled in football. Tom was a member of the Army National Guard for six years. Tom was united in marriage to Lois Mae Rouse on February 20, 1971 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island. Tom owned and operated Miller and Miller, Inc. doing excavating, demolition, and gravel work until his retirement in 2001. For numerous years, Tom and Lois also sold Christmas trees and wreaths. He served his community on the Olivia Fire Department for many years. Due to kidney failure, Tom had been on dialysis for the past 15 years. Tom had a passion for fishing, hunting, and playing cards. His beloved dog, Jasper was always by his side. Recently, Tom loved Sunday trips with Lois to Arby’s for a roast beef sandwich. Family was very important to Tom, and he enjoyed time spent with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Tom is survived by his wife, Lois of Olivia; brothers-in-law, Richard Rouse of Olivia and Casey (and Barb) Rouse of Bird Island; his nieces and nephews: Jason (and Brenda) Rouse of Olivia, Jonathan (and Natalie) Rouse of Victoria, Jennifer (and Ryan) McGraw of Rogers, Kelly (and Jon) Hagstrom of Hutchinson, and Carla (and Troy) Elfering of Bird Island. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Catherine Miller; daughter, Baby Miller; and sister-in-law, Carol Rouse.
